Description:
The following description was provided by Dr.Colwell-Chanthaphonh, Curator of Anthropology and NAGPRA Officer, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Denver, CO. Size: 7 x 152 cm Dates: 1700-1799 Party: "I acquired this object from Mr. J. Economos whose address is 10 East 85th St., NY, NY" (H.B. Roloff, 1974).
Remarks: Notes from the Iroquois Delegation (Haudenosaunee) 11/16/99: Could ribbon be traced? The wampum appears NOT to be the factory-made type because of varied sizes and lengths and thought to possibly be earlier than 1700's. 'M's signify mountains. Center design a tree? Red paint signifies a declaration of war (Joyce Herold, 11/29/1999).
